The Dalai Lama said Wednesday that Chinese authorities had rebuffed all his efforts to reach a compromise over Tibet and had instead engaged in systematic repression as part of a plan to 'annihilate Buddhism.'

NEW DELHI: Twenty-seven Tibetans, including five women, were on Tuesday detained when they made an attempt to forcibly enter the Chinese embassy here during their protest on the eve of the anniversary of uprising in Tibet 51 years ago.
The protesters assembled in front of the Chinese embassy in the high-security Chanakyapuri area in the morning and rushed to the embassy gate but were prevented by police personnel. Nearly 500 policemen, including the paramilitary forces, were deployed at the embassy.
The detained Tibetans were shouting slogans like 'Tibet belongs to Tibet' and 'Free Tibet'. However, no case was registered and the protesters were later released, police said.
